Although deciding between law schools was much more difficult than I anticipated, Yale Law stood out prominently during consideration due to a psychological trick in their application process. All law schools require a personal statement as a part of their application including Yale. Yale is the only law school, however, that requires an additional essay of words or less. To add to the pressure, Yale reminds the applicant that the choice of topic may be analyzed during admission consideration.
Needless to say, this was a very difficult essay not only to write but to even think about writing. I spent over a month determining an appropriate idea. As I wrote it, fine-tuned it, reduced it, however, the essay quickly became my favorite part of the application process. Being required to condense my thoughts into so finite a space meant that no word was wasted, no thought verbose. The final product is very crisp and concise if I do say so myself. As mentioned, the essay is included below. Hopefully it lives up to the hype. Here is the Calvin and Hobbes strip referenced in the essay as well for your consideration and enjoyment.

His classroom lethargy seems to stem from simple disinterest rather than from mental incapacity. Although appreciative of my enthusiasm, the type-A Susie Derkins of my class will learn regardless of teaching style.
For the Calvins, engaging lessons can help to convert a listless education into a self-motivated one. This is why I cater to the Calvins.
Watterson, Bill. Teaching is not a city in China, but it is a profession in China. My Chinese surroundings certainly oriented well with the content of my course. My friend and coworker, Imran, was very excited to go back to Singapore. That is a good question. Apparently, many lecturers in my department were reluctant to take on the course. All the better when both parties get what they want, right? Shanghai had its own set of adventures including a student who endured several severe panic attacks and an hour-long cab ride to visit an intern, Heran, at the unexpectedly far away Shanghai Botanic Gardens.
Overall, Shanghai was a whirlwind of impressive buildings, museum excursions, and historical sites. I found myself interacting with local people much more in Tianjin than in Shanghai. Eventually, he summoned enough pluck to initiate an impromptu English lesson.
From there, we sustained a bilingual conversation, each of us testing out a marginally familiar language. Nothing monumental was said. Grammar and vocabulary were basic.
